Deposition Summaries

Typically, summaries are approximately 10% of the original transcript. This means a 100-page transcript is reduced to 10 pages. However, this can vary depending upon the type of witness being deposed. A fact witness summary usually adheres to the 10% rule. But an expert witness (i.e., medical professional, engineer, etc.) summary can be longer.

  • I provide free pick up and delivery up to 40 miles.

  • I also provide a disk of the summaries so you can perform searches for words or phrases.

  • I use Word Perfect and Word and, if you like, can email the summary to you in the one which suits your needs.

  • The summaries can be prepared in a line, page or topic format.

  • I charge by the page: $2.00 for each page of the original transcript, from the first page of testimony to the last page of testimony.

  • If you wish, I will track my time so you can charge your clients accordingly.

  • Turn-around can be as little a 24 hours for a 100-page transcript (but you'll incur a surcharge). Typically I receive several transcripts at the same time, requiring a deadline of at least one week.

  • Why use an outside service to summarize deposition transcripts? It depends on your needs, resources, and time constraints.

  • Do you currently have a paralegal, law clerk or associate attorney read the transcript and dictate or handwrite the summary for a legal secretary or typist to then transcribe?

  • How long does it take to dictate or handwrite a summary?

  • How long does it take to transcribe the dictation or handwritten pages?

  • What are you paying your paralegal/law clerk/associate per hour to dictate or handwrite a summary?

  • What are you paying your support staff in salary and benefits to transcribe the dictation or handwritten pages? Remember, you are paying overhead for the support staff when they could be spending their time in more productive ways.

  • Would hiring an outside service relieve the backlog of depositions waiting to be summarized?
